Free Everyday Banking for 1.5 Million Citizens of Serbia

Belgrade, June 4 – One and a half million people now have access to free banking. Thanks to the joint offer from Yettel and Yettel Bank, Serbian citizens will keep more than €250 million in their pockets every year.

For all Yettel postpaid customers, a Yettel Bank current account is now available without account maintenance fees and without the everyday banking charges they have traditionally paid.

For years, we have been changing the way people use digital services. Now, we are taking another major step forward – enabling free banking for one and a half million people in Serbia. We strongly believe in the synergy and the ecosystem we are building between Yettel and Yettel Bank,” said Mike Michel, CEO of Yettel.

Behind everyday banking fees lies a much greater cost than most citizens realize at first glance. Estimates show that eliminating monthly account maintenance fees alone could save citizens more than €90 million per year.

When you look at banking fees as an individual, they may not seem significant. But when you add them up across the entire country, we are talking about hundreds of millions of euros that citizens pay to banks. We think that is not fair. We believe that money should stay with people – to be spent on a child’s school trip, a visit to the hairdresser, or a weekend getaway. That is why we decided to make everyday banking free for one and a half million people in Serbia and directly contribute to improving their quality of life,” said Aleksandar Bogdanović, President of the Executive Board of Yettel Bank.

Serbian Citizens to Save More Than €250 Million Annually

When other banking charges are also considered, such as cash withdrawals at other banks’ ATMs, additional payment fees, or card usage abroad – the total amount of money that remains with citizens is estimated at more than €250 million annually. Instead of disappearing through banking fees, this money could remain in household budgets and be reinvested into the domestic economy.

All Yettel postpaid customers are eligible for free banking and only need to visit a Yettel shop to activate the service. Free banking includes the use of the Bank MAX current account with no maintenance fees, domestic payments, cash withdrawals at any ATM in Serbia, money transfers, bill payments, and more.

In addition, the estimated annual savings amount is based on the average monthly current account maintenance fee, multiplied by 12 months and by the number of customers who, as of May 2026, meet the criteria for using a Yettel Bank current account free of charge.
